professional development by distance

COURSE IS NOW INACTIVE - SEE HOME PAGE

Site Overview

The HTA course is an online, distance education offering. As a result, some sections of this website are restricted to individuals enroled in the course. Please explore the public sections of the site, and then send us email for additional information, or submit an application for registration if you would like to enrol.

The public sections of this site include:

[Overview] This section - an overview of the components of the website.
[Getting Started] An introduction to the format of the course, and the technology required to successfully complete the course.
[Course Units] A brief description of the content of each course unit, or module, and one sample unit, providing an example of the material, readings, and assignments typical to one course unit.
[How to Register] Information on registering for the course.
[References] Sources cited and referenced in the lecture materials.
[Related Links] Links to other Health Technology Assessment resources on the Internet.
[Contact Information] Email, phone, fax, and mailing address information for course contacts.
[HTA Home] The Health Technology Assessment home page - a high level description of the course, its purpose and intended audience.

The restricted portions of this site include:

[Log On for Enroled Students] Upon enrolment to the course, students will be assigned a userid and password which enables access to the restricted sections of the website.

The Course Unit material is published to this restricted portion of the site. Content of the course units usually includes:

  • an introduction providing a brief rationale for the unit content, and listing the goals and objectives of the unit
  • lecture materials - a text-based lecture for review over the one or two week period allotted for that unit
  • assigned readings to support the lecture materials
  • suggested additional resources providing supporting information on related topics
  • one or more short assignments for each unit.

Student participation is encouraged throughout the course. A list service has been established to enable email communication throughout the group, and a bulletin board service is also under development for implementation during the first offering of the course.
